Check the podcast page for my new book trailer.
I’m afraid Covid and then my sister’s short illness and death have taken me from these pages. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve posted to my blog. Please bear with me as I try to get back into the groove.
On these pages, you will find lots of Great Plains prairie and the resilient people who live here. The plains can be harsh but, as my father said, “It’s my home and I won’t apologized for it.” I’m actually rather proud of it. You’ll find history–fiction and non-fiction.
You will notice my conjectures on how families support or undermine resilience. I’m especially interested in extended families since I grew up in one. I like to write about communities like prairies, all interconnected at the roots, and how they share nutrients. I’m desperately concerned about the planet, not just the high plains prairie where I live, but the earth as a whole. Like my grandfather said, “We don’t own [the land], we’re just give it to take care of for the next generations.”
I’m a sucker for stories—long, short; sweet, sour; horrifying, inspiring; made-up, true—I love ’em all. I hope my stories provide amusement, something to think about, or maybe just another perspective. I’ve learned that people sometimes read entirely different meanings into what I’ve written than what I intended, but isn’t that the perfect collaboration between writer and reader?
I hope you’ll stick around. You’ll find the link for my blog page in the top menu and I’ll update two or three times a week so maybe you’ll want to subscribe.
